Each camper uses or is learning to use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) including speech generating devices, tablets with communication apps and communication books. Most campers have associated physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Campers attend with a parent or carer and across the course of the camp are involved in a range of activities which are closely scripted so that they can practise using their communication systems in a fun and meaningful way.CPL is looking for speech pathology volunteers who would like to support children with a disability to make long lasting memories at Camp Have a Chat!As the CHAC Speech Pathology Volunteer you will support CPL’s Camp Have a Chat team to deliver a fun and exciting camp for all involved! Your contribution will add significant value to the team and CPL to support people with disabilities to live the life they choose! We are looking for a student with experience and/or interest in AAC and who has completed a least one year of speech pathology study. If this is you and you’re passionate about being a part of such an exciting event, we would love you to get in touch!As the Camp Have a Chat speech pathology student volunteer you will be:Supporting a child who uses a communication system and their family to participate at campAssisting camp facilitators with the smooth running of activities and camp processesMeeting regularly with camp staffLearning about and observing a variety of different AAC options and how they can be integrated into everyday life Camp Have a Chat is held at the Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club in Townsville over three days, Tuesday 27th June- Thursday 29th June 2017. Volunteers will be expected to work from 9:00am to 3:00pm daily.
